Let us take up diet and eating habits at first. To lose weight and stay fit, choose only good fats having fatty acids. Therefore, an oily fish such as mackerel, salmon, or sardine will be an excellent choice as their fatty acids will help your body to burn fat quickly and protect you from disease. Eating quality protein is also helpful because of the satiety factor. It helps maintaining muscle mass that plays a key role as far as burning calories is concerned. Fish, shrimps, low fat cottage cheese, low fat yogurt, skimmed milk, egg whites belong to this category. In fact, even carbohydrates can help you lose weight. You will be able to lose weight if you stick to a diet plan that contains good carbohydrates like fruits and vegetables, whole grains etc. It is better to eat them "from the earth" without any refining or processing. Among good carbohydrates are whole grains, vegetables, fruits and beans. Eat fiber-rich foods which are low in calories and easy to digest.

Never skip any of your regular meals, including breakfast. Make a habit of having 5-6 small meals instead of 2-3 big ones everyday. In this way, you won't feel hungry; however, eat in small portions so that the amount of calories taken in stays within reasonable limits. Don't overeat in any of the meals. Drink as much water as you can, ideally eight 8-oz glasses per day. It will control your hunger and prevent dehydration which often leads to a false feeling of hunger. In addition, water plays a key role in several functions of the body.

Along with a proper diet, you must do some kind of physical exercise to lose weight and stay fit. In the absence of any kind of physical exercise, it is almost impossible for any person to lose his/her unwanted kilos. Such an exercise may be in the form of jogging, walking, running etc. You can do aerobics if you like as well, as it will add an element of fun to your weight loss plan. If you decide to go to your neighborhood gym, try weight training to build muscles. Any type of cardio exercise will also keep your heart in good shape. Physical exercise can create a calorie deficit that helps you lose weight without keeping your body starved or adversely affecting your metabolism.

If you follow the above simple guidelines, you will certainly find no real problem in losing weight and staying healthy and fit. A well chosen blend of diet and physical exercise will do the trick for you.
