With the festive season knocking at the door we all want to look our best and lose that extra fat before we indulge ourselves into the festive mood. Often incorrect eating and lack of exercise causes us to put on weight. If healthy weight loss is our goal, these seven easy tips are sure to help us achieve it.

One of the absolute worst things we can do when trying to lose weight is to skip meals. Nothing can spree up a diet more rapidly. By skipping meals, we can force our body into “starvation mode", causing it to hang on to the weight that we are trying lose. That's because our body reacts as if it is literally starving, retaining the fat as a defensive measure. Another predicament with skipping meals is that by the time we do get around to eating, we will perhaps overeat, making up for the calories we skipped earlier.

The input to a healthy diet and weight management is portion control. Being conscious of how much we eat is just as imperative as knowing what we eat. Regrettably, it's not always easy to figure out what a “normal" portion size is, especially in a world where bigger is better. We're enclosed by restaurants serving abundant plates of food. We should stick to smaller meal size and eat 5 small meals a day than eat 3 large square meals.

Adding more whole grains our diet is good for weight loss. Grains, fruits, and vegetables are nutrient loaded, low in calories and fat, and high in fiber, allowing us to eat more of them without gaining weight. Also, the fiber in whole grains and produce makes us feel fuller for long, helping us to avoid overeating.

Accepting food labels is an easy, yet critical, skill in the hunt of healthy weight loss. Without it, we cannot count calories, figure out serving sizes, or compare labels, making informed food choices virtually impossible.

Gulp down eight glasses a day, as usual wisdom suggests. We should spread our water consumption throughout the day, replacing the sodas or sugary drinks that we normally have with meals. And we should avoid all the calories found in those other beverages.

In order to maintain blood sugar levels, it's necessary to eat every three to four hours. That's where snacks appear. They help us maintain proper blood sugar levels and prevent us from getting too hungry between meals, helping us control our portions and avoid overeating at mealtime. Of course, the snack we choose must be healthy and satisfying. For example, trying an apple, which is high in fiber and low in calories, with reduced fat cottage cheese, is an excellent source of protein.

Exercise does not mean running a marathon or hours spent in the gym lifting weights. The important thing is to get our heart-rate up. Riding a bike or taking a brisk walk will get our heart pumping faster, boosting our metabolism. These ways will surely help us lose weight quickly and by incorporating these we can maintain our health as well.
